Configuring you E-mail

Using Control Panel for email configuration

The Control Panel is a web based account management tool that makes managing your email options simple. Once you have logged into the control panel, select the "Email Manager" link. You will see a list of email addresses and where they are redirected to. You may add up to 5 new aliases/redirects at a time.

Note: The 1st column should not have @YourDomain.com in it. The 1st column should only have the 1st part of the email address (ie support, webmaster, etc...)

Note: The system checks every 5 minutes for changes made to your email options. Your changes will not be immediately available. They will be functioning within 5 minutes after the system has noted the changes.

Example - If you want to redirect all incoming mail to YourDomain.com to your AOL account (youraccount@aol.com), you would do the following:
Type a * in the 1st column for the email address. A * is the default and redirects any email that is not listed in the 1st column to this address. The * can be used as a way to forward all email to a domain to one location. In the 2nd column type youraccount@aol.com. This redirects all email to youraccount@aol.com

If you wanted all email to YourDomain.com to go to the main POP box for your account, you would have this entry:

*       YourDomain
The 1st column has a * to set the default, and the 2nd column redirects all mail to the main POP box. If you want email to go to a POP box for your account, put only the 1st part of your domain name (no .com) for the main pop box or the name of an additional pop box.

Example: You want all email for your domain, you.com, to go to the main POP box for your account:

*       business

If you want Sue to have her own email address, and have it go to her personal email at hotmail, you would enter:

sue   sue@hotmail.com

If help@YourDomain.com needed to be sent to 3 different email addresses, you put those addresses in the 2nd column, separated by only commas (No white space in between addresses):

support    fred@aol.com,marcia@att.com,yourdomain

Autoresponders
To setup an autoresponder, in the "Email Manager", put the name of the autoresponder in the 1st column (ie info), and put the word autoresponder in the 2nd column. Now, create a file with the same name as the autoresponder, and put it in the directory "infobots" off of your home directory. This file is the response you want sent out when people email this address. Once the system updates your entry, a file named .redirect will be created in your home directory containing the autoresponder address and where the original email message that was received should be sent to. The default is YourDomain@YourDomain.com The file you create as the autoresponder can be any size. If you want to change the default address where a copy of the incoming message is sent to, edit the file .redirect that is in your home directory.

2) Manually setting up email options

Note:The preferred method of maintaining your email options is to use the Control Panel with your web browser. Manually editing the files that control your email can result in your email not functioning properly.

Note: Never delete an entry in the mailredirect file. If you want to delete an entry, put the word "DELETE" in all caps as the destination address in the control panel. The system will then properly remove the email address. mailredirect
The mailredirect file is located in your home directory and controls all email redirection. The syntax of this file is very strict, and must be adhered to in order for it to work properly. It should be setup as shown below, with one space separating the alias from the redirected address.

eric 73452.452@compuserve.com
susan susan.simpson@mci.com
kim goddess@afterlife.com
* crazy@bob.com
This would redirect mail for eric@yourdomain.com to 73452.452@compuserve.com, susan@yourdomain.com to susan.simpson@mci.com, etc...

If you would like email to go to your account on our servers, only put the first part of your domain name. For example, if your domain is xyz.com, you would put the following to forward sales@xyz.com to your pop account on the server: sales xyz

The last entry is a '*' and serves as the default. Any mail not sent to one of the addresses listed in the file will default to the redirected address placed after the '*'. Mail to a user that was not in this list would be sent to the default user, crazy@bob.com

Also, you may redirect mail to multiple addresses by separating each destination email address with a comma. Please note however, that the maximum number of characters in a single mail redirect entry is 164.

You may modify your mailredirect file at any time. Changes will take effect within 5 minutes as stated above.

Autoresponder

If you would like an autoresponder at
info@yourdomain.com you need to follow two steps.

1) Go in to the mailredirect file mentioned above
and add an entry like the one listed below.

info autoresponder

(Any autoresponders you use must be noted in
the mailredirect file with the alias followed
by a space and then 'autoresponder' in lower
case.)

2) Create a file in the directory "infobots"
off of your home directory named info, type
in your autoresponse message, and save the
file.
Mail to info@yourdomain.com will return the message that is contained in the info file. A file will be created in your home directory in 5 minutes called .redirect This file will contain the autoresponder address and where the original message will be sent to. The default is YourDomain@YourDomain.com For the previous example, .redirect would contain:
info YourDomain@YourDomain.com
This will cause all emails sent to info@YourDomain.com to be responded to by your autoresponder and have a copy of the original message sent to you.

These messages can be any size, even 100K!

Furthermore, you can set up multiple autoresponders in this same manner. Just follow the steps above and everything will work smoothly.

3) POP box management

To add or delete a POP box, please email us the details (ie name, password, etc...) and we will process your request. If you need an additional POP box above what your account allows, use our additional features online order form.

If you want to change the password of a POP box, select the "Change Account Password" option in the Control Panel.
